About

Kevin Cheek is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and award-winning composer. After touring the United States extensively with the Marine Corps Band, Kevin began studying music theory and composing under the tutelage of Dr. Yiorgos Vassilandonakis at the College of Charleston. It was there that he won the Reba Kinne Huge Award in Music (2016), later graduating from the college in 2017. Kevin began his graduate studies in 2020 studying under Dr. Stephen Lias. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with a Master of Music degree in 2022, his concentration being theory/composition.

Kevin enjoys composing for many different ensemble settings and his first orchestral work, Return to Me, was performed by the Charleston Symphony Orchestra. His works have been performed in Charleston, Beaufort, Myrtle Beach, New Orleans, and Ireland. More recently, his concert-band piece, A Soldier's Story, was premiered by the Parris Island Marine Band and the 282nd Army Band.

Kevin is currently a music theory instructor at a local music school and, though he intends to continue with theory studies and instrumental composition, his heart has been forever drawn to the power of the singer/songwriter as a vehicle for telling stories and this is his focus these days. Kevin takes influence from the likes of Jackson Browne, Bob Dylan, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Josh Ritter, Townes Van Zandt, John Moreland, Jason Isbell, and Nick Drake among others.

He is currently writing and recording his first full-length singer/songwriter record.
